“We were able to make some valuable contacts,” says Robin Wirz, co-founder and CEO of app developer Terria Mobile. Together with his team, he spent ten days in Boston at the end of June – as one of 20 young Swiss companies. These comprise the Swiss startup national team, which is selected by the federal government each year from over 150 applications to participate in this Venturelab training program.
“Being chosen for the national team is a seal of quality for young Swiss firms,” says project manager Flavio Agosti. “Only companies with great potential make it onto the national team,” confirms Nina Ryser, Director of Economic Development for the city of Basle. Terria Mobile’s apps are very successful: They often make it into the top five of the Swiss download charts” says Wirz.
App for Mexico
According to Ryser, who previously oversaw the national team for two years, the visit to the US also serves as “a springboard to the huge US market.” Didier Wetzel, the second co-founder and COO of the company, also hopes to gain a foothold there. “We are in talks with potential investors.” Besides major Swiss clients, such as Credit Suisse, they now also have an order from overseas: They are currently developing an app for the Mexican Congress.
